The first widely known cbd dominant cultivars appeared in the late 2000s, when laboratory testing became accessible to growers and unusual chemical profiles could be identified for the first time. Before that, selection had been guided mostly by perceived strength, which favoured THC. Once analysis was routine, breeders began preserving and stabilising plants that would previously have been discarded.
